U.E. ‘Pat’ Patrick, whose Patrick Racing team competed in Indy car racing between 1970 and 2004, amassing two championships, three Indy 500 victories and 42 other wins, died aged 91 after a long illness.
Patrick’s most famous victory came in the 1982 Indianapolis 500 (above), when Gordon Johncock’s Patrick Racing Wildcat defeated Team Penske’s Rick Mears by just 0.16sec.
